The event paid tribute to the Apollo?s sixty year contribution to the entertainment world. In February, 2002, she happily returned to Disney?s Pleasure Island to the BET Soundstage Club for another year of tributes to that great institution......the Apollo Theater.Ms Shepard was honored by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, for her leadership and positive contributions to the spiritual and mental well-being of today?s youth. She hosted the 2003 ACT-SO Awards at the NAACP?s National Convention, honoring students for outstanding achievement in the academic, cultural, technical, and scientific fields.Although the disease has never affected anyone in her immediate family, KiKi feels especially compassionate to the fight waged everyday by the Sickle Cell Disease Association, and has selected it to be her CHARITY OF CHOICE. She travels around the country hosting and making guest appearances to raise awareness for this deserving cause. Ms. Shepard?s 1st annual KIKI?S BIRTHDAY CELEBRITY BOWLING CHALLENGE, benefitting the SCDAA, held 7.20.?03, was a rousing success. The 2nd CBC, held 7.25.?04,was amazing, and established KiKi?s dedication to this cause. The 3rd CBC, held 8.13-14.?05, was, in a word, Fabulous!!KiKi?s CBC-?06 celebrated her poster child?s successful bone marrow transplant surgery, and this year, the CBC-?07 salutes her fantastic cure of SCD, with even more dedicated artists and businesses joining the fight against Sickle Cell Disease.The Sickle Cell Disease Research Center, UTD, honored Ms Shepard by asking her to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the new reseach center this past September 1, 2005. Her determination to bring Sickle Cell Disease to the forefront of the minds of the American public and government is stronger than ever, and she welcomes the opportunity to advance the awareness of SCD at every turn.Now that Ms. Shepard has become an avid golfer, she also goes far and near to play a great round of golf to raise needed dollars to support other charities, such as ?The Skills Center of America?, ?The Beacon Schools of the Virgin Islands? ,?The Trent Tucker Foundation?, and, the ?UNCF?.KiKi Shepard hails from Tyler, Texas....the ?Rose Capital of the World?,is a graduate of Howard University, and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. KiKi practices what she preaches, and always finds time to work with, counsel, or just be a friend to the youth of America.Ms. Shepard believes in God and tries to walk with him in everythingshe does. In her talks with the youth of America, she always emphasizes the need for education, and the determination to ?be the best that you can be.?
